1) Monday Mood Boost; Nothing Matters

— by

Monday’s can be difficult.

You wake up, it’s the start of a new week and you might be feeling a bit anxious.

Your mind is racing ahead to all the things you need to do and all the challenges you need to overcome.

It can be a bit daunting.

So here’s a mood booster for you.

A reason why you don’t need to feel so bad, why you should be grateful for your life and why today is a great day to be you.

Nothing Matters

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night.” – Chief Crowfoot.

Your life is incredibly short.

In the grand scheme of the universe and its existence, it is the equivalent of the momentary flash of a firefly in the night.

As far as the universe is concerned, you are born and you die in an instant.

The 80+ years you have on earth are the tiniest fraction of the 13,700,000,000 years the universe has witnessed.

Your time on earth accounts for such a small percentage in the grand scheme of time and among the amount of people living today that you can’t even put a number on it.

It would round to 0 every time.

And this is true for everyone no matter what you’re doing with your life.

The universe has forgotten civilisations, conquerers, species, plants, kingdoms. They’ve been and gone.

As we will too.

But it’s easy to lose track of this.

We get so caught up in our daily lives that we convince ourselves our issues are important.

It sounds harsh, but you just don’t really matter that much.

From a cosmic, global view, why are your problems more important than those of the people in Abuja, Nigeria? Or Nassau in the Bahamas? They aren’t, of course.

In Delhi alone there are 33 million people with anxieties.

In the house next door to you, there’s someone with anxieties and someone going through stuff probably a lot worse than you have to deal with.

Everyone has problems, everyone is going through stuff.

In fact, there are at least 828 million people who don’t have enough food each day who would give anything to trade places with you.

No matter how much your boss stresses you out.

Or how many projects you have to complete this week.

You’re living the best life imaginable.

You have everything you need to be happy.

And even from the view of your own life, the problems that trouble you today and this week will be insignficant in 3 months time.

You’ll look back and laugh at how seriously you took things.

So, today, try and be 10% less stressed.

For you will soon be dead, and you have one life.

Don’t waste it being stressed about things insignificant and unworthy.

“Remember: Matter. How tiny your share of it. Time. How brief and fleeting your allotment of it. Fate. How small a role you play in it.” – Marcus Aurelius

Use this to not worry so much.

Have a good Monday and week.

Love, as always,

Max
